Shiseido Face Color Enhancing Trio is the latest powder product from Shiseido, a luxury Japanese cosmetics company that is well-known for its finely milled powders and eye shadows. The launch of the Shiseido Face Color Enhancing Trio was delayed for 3 months in the US; stores in Asia and Europe received this product back in February and March but for some reason, department stores in the US only began selling it at the end of April.
The Shiseido Face Color Enhancing Trio comes in four color variations. The long, slim elegant black case contains the powder and an oblong brush. It is called a trio because in the powder pan, there are three shades. Here is how Shiseido describes them:
(1) The topmost shade is a blushing color: “This warm tone adds soft rosiness to your cheeks, leaving the skin looking healthy, with a translucent glow and a moderately pearlescent texture.”
(2) The middle shade is a sculpting color: “This color has a highlighting or shading effect. It creates a natural-looking contrast and adds a lustrous texture.”
(3) The bottom shade is a harmonising color: “A beige tone that blends the Blushing Color and Sculpting Color to match your own natural skin tone perfectly, for a natural looking color gradation. Blended with a subtle, non-glare pearl agent.”
I got RD1 Apple because it suits my skin tone; most people will be able to wear RD1. For very fair skin, I suggest Lychee PK1 (“With translucent accents in pale shades of pink, ivory and cream, the Lychee powder palette illuminates the skin, helping to create a clean impression.”).
For dark skin, wear Plum RS1 (“The Plum powder palette helps to create a glamorous impression through a combination of rich bronze and a vivid rose tone to add detail to the facial structure along with a golden beige glow.”)
Medium to dark skin tones can wear Peach OR1 (“The Peach powder palette lends skin a soft hint of coral, subtle beige shading and delicate gold highlights, helping to create a sophisticated impression.”)
How to use the Shiseido Face Color Enhancing Trio
There are 2 ways to use this color palette. One is to swirl all the shades together using the brush and lightly swipe across the cheeks for a very natural flush. The other (more dramatic) way is to apply the blushing color on the cheeks, the sculpting color under the cheekbones to contour, and the harmonising color lightly over both to eliminate any harsh edges.
The verdict: I have been using the Shiseido Face Color Enhancing Trio for three days. The powder is absolutely gorgeous on the face — very fine and easy to blend. The color shade I picked (RD1) looks natural. After wearing it for several hours, I noticed very little fading. This is a great face powder for spring and summer. It is also perfect for traveling because you can take this palette instead of dragging around a face powder compact and a blush compact.
