Shiseido UV Protective Stick Foundation: sun protection (SPF 37) with a gorgeous finish

Shiseido UV Protective Stick Foundation is the most impressive foundation stick I have tried. It protects my skin from UVA and UVB rays, has SPF 37 and delivers a gorgeous finish. The texture is creamy and it is easy to apply evenly over my skin, creating a luminous look. I have normal-to-oily skin and I was afraid that the Shiseido UV Protective Skin Foundation would be too greasy, but surprisingly it dries down to a beautiful finish that looks natural and glowing (without the oiliness).

Shiseido UV Protective Stick Foundation’s sun protection and anti-aging benefits

There’s nothing more dangerous and aging to the skin than exposing yourself to the sun without sunscreen. I know this first-hand. Recently I had a tiny mole removed and after a biopsy, it appeared to be a form of basal cell carcinoma (the most common form of skin cancer, which is not lethal). Because it was removed via MOHS surgery, I have a small scar that will disappear over time, but I need to keep it adequately protected from the sun. One needs at least SPF 30 to be well protected and one must have protection against both UVA and UVB rays (note: I run, swim and hike and over the years, I neglected to protect my skin adequately).

I bought the Shiseido UV Protective Stick Foundation with SPF 37 for both sunscreen protection and concealment of the scar, and it does both wonderfully. The active ingredients that provide UVA/UVB protection in this stick foundation are titanium dioxide (7.2 percent) and octinoxate (2.9 percent). The stick foundation acts as a concealer and a very natural one at that! It takes away the redness and blends in beautifully with my skin.

The shade I use is Fair Ochre, which is slightly yellow-based (I am Chinese-Filipino). There are four foundation shades: Beige, Fair Ivory, Fair Ochre and Ochre. A note about Shiseido’s strange nomenclature: Ochre shades tend to be yellow-based. Ivory tends to be neutral (not too yellow, not too pink). Beige tends to have pink undertones. It’s too bad that Shiseido does not have more shades, especially for darker skin tones, because this product is truly a breakthrough in stick foundation technology.

Shiseido UV Protective Stick Foundation’s other benefits

Not only does it provide SPF 37 sun protection and a lovely finish, it is also water-resistant (80 minutes). So if you will be in a very humid environment or if you are going to beach where you will sweat and swim, once again, this foundation comes to the rescue. You have to re-apply it after an hour if you sweat heavily or swim.

Another major benefit: it’s about 3 inches (7.6 centimeters) and in stick form, which means it is easy to carry it your pocket or purse. It’s also terrific for travel in a carry-on bag.

Summary: Shiseido UV Protective Stick Foundation is perfect for summer

There is absolutely NO EXCUSE to expose your skin to the sun without at least SPF 30 sunscreen that provides protection from UVA and UVB rays. The latest technological advances in cosmetic chemistry, as evidenced in the Shiseido UV Protective Stick Foundation, are available to all: a gorgeous luminous finish that covers imperfections and scars, and still looks natural; non-greasy formula; water-resistant; easy to carry and pack for travel.

In the US, the Shiseido UV Protective Stick Foundation costs $28 and is available from Shiseido.com and many department stores. Shiseido also offers a liquid version called Shiseido Sun UV Protective Foundation SPF 42 (UVA/UVB) in 7 shades. It has an absolutely lovely finish, too, and I recommend it for those who want a sunscreen foundation in liquid form (also water-resistant). However, I did not find the correct shade for my skin tone. I tried the Light Ochre shade in the liquid foundation formula and it was too fair for me. I wish Shiseido made the Medium Ochre shade in the liquid foundation. However, I am happy enough with the stick foundation and I recommend it highly to anyone who wants a natural finish with a lot of sunscreen protection.

  1. Hi! Thanks for the review. Do you know what shade you are in mac foundations? NC25 or NC 30? I’m trying to pick a shade and can’t decide between fair ivory and fair ochre! Thanks!

I can wear NC25 and NC30 in MAC foundations. Fair Ochre has a more yellow base than Fair Ivory. I would suggest Fair Ochre.
