Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Cushion Compact Review

I bought the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Cushion Compact in Japan in May 2016 and I have had two months to test this latest foundation from Bobbi Brown. I assume you are familiar with cushion foundations, which appeared first in Asia from Korean cosmetics companies such as Laneige and Etude House. American and European companies now have their own versions, the latest of which is from Bobbi Brown (although it took Bobbi Brown six months to release this foundation in the US after the Asia launch).

This cushion compact has two parts: a black plastic container with a mirror and a Nespresso-like capsule (containing the fluid) that you pop into the container.

Pros of the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Cushion Compact:

  • Great for travel: not a liquid and the portable compact is airtight;
  • Light to medium coverage for those who don’t want heavy makeup;
  • Slightly dewy finish (good for normal to dry skin);
  • Covers large pores on nose and cheeks;
  • Does not enhance fine lines.

Cons of the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Cushion Compact:

  • Expensive;
  • Not designed for oily skin;
  • Does not last more than 4 hours;
  • Limited colour selection.

I admit that the reason I bought this foundation is for travel. I don’t check in my bags and I travel to a lot of countries so I need to minimise the number of liquids I take.

I wear the Medium to Dark shade, which is perfect for summer when my skin is a bit darker. But I will move to the Medium shade in the winter. I wear a pressed powder over this foundation to make my skin look flawless.

Do I recommend this Bobbi Brown cushion foundation? Yes, if you travel a lot and if you can find a perfect colour match. It is very easy to apply. Just tap the flat sponge on the product and pat, pat, pat on your face, working the product into your nose and cheeks (if you have large pores). You’re done in a few seconds.

Available only at Nordstrom (for now).
